Nail- Patella Syndrome

In Nail-Patella Syndrome, nails can be underdeveloped, undeveloped, discolored, split, ridged and pitted. The base of the nails are triangle shaped instead of cresent shaped. People with this disorder also have skeletal abnormalities including the knee, hips and elbows. Nail-Patella Syndrome is inherited. It is passed down with the gene LMXIB. Nail-Patella Syndrome can be detected by watching for nail changes and knee involvement.
